ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examinethe role of the agency for mass education in promoting adult educationin Zuru Local Government Area, Kebbi State usingInstructors and students of adult literacy centre in Zuru, Kebbi State as a case study. Specifically, the study aimed at examining the role of the Agency for mass education in the promotion of Adult education programmes in Zuru Local Government, examine the problems affecting the agency for mass Education in an effort to undertaking their programmes, and investigate howthe problems affecting the agency can be over come. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 259 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the agency for mass education does play significant role in the promotion of Adult education programmes in Zuru Local Government The study therefore recommends that government should ensure judicious resource allocation and utilization for the smooth running of the programme. Also, government should always carryout training and retraining of literacy managers and instructors in order to ensure quality teaching. Furthermore, government should endeavor effective organization and management of curriculum and instruction so as to achieve the main aim of the programme
